A mum is over the moon that her nearly two-year quest for a skate park in her village has taken a major step forward.

Abi Edevane, 48, first approached Brantham Parish Council with hopes of building a skate park at the playing field, off Factory Road, in September 2023.

She felt there was little on offer for children and was inspired to create something her two boys, eight and 10, as well as other youngsters could enjoy.

On June 4, the parish council submitted proposals to Babergh District Council for a lawful development certificate. It aims to build the park at an existing concrete square at the site.

Abi said: “My boys are not into football, so I went to the parish council with my idea and they were pleased with the idea of building a skate park.

“Since then I’ve joined the parish council to head up the campaign – something I never thought I’d do – and secured a £40,000 grant.

“It’s amazing, phenomenal, I never thought this would happen. I’m just a hairdresser and mum of two boys, I’ve never organised anything like this in my life.

“Now it feels like it is going to happen.”
